Filters and the search bar
Every search bar in DonorAtlas has a Filters button beside it, carrying a count of the filters your current search sets. Click it and the filters window opens over the page, with every criterion the search engine has in one long scroll.
You don't need a search to start from. On a page with no results the window opens empty, and you can build a whole search out of filters and press Search without typing a word. Open it over a set of results and it opens filled in with that search instead.
Both the bar and the window edit the same search, and they go about it differently:
- Typing into the search bar re-reads your whole sentence with AI. Best for starting a search, or changing a lot of it at once
- The filters window edits the search directly, with nothing reinterpreted. Best for precise work, and it reaches criteria that are hard to phrase in a sentence
Along the top of the window your search is written out as a sentence, and beside the Search button is a live count of how many donors match. Both update as you edit, so narrowing a search requires no guessing: the number beside the button is the number pressing it returns. Each blue chip in that sentence is also a link: click one and the window scrolls to the filter behind it. Clear all empties everything; Revert puts back the search you opened with.
Your results don't change until you press Search. The window keeps your edits while you close it and come back, so you can leave one half-built. They're only replaced when you start a new search from the bar.
